The Social Services Transportation Advisory Council (SSTAC) helps improve transportation for those who need social services, like low-income people, seniors, and those with disabilities. The Shasta Regional Transportation Agency (SRTA) runs SSTAC. It meets at least twice a year to discuss and suggest ways to improve transit in the Shasta Region. Nine voting members and up to nine additional members appointed by SRTA attend these meetings. Anyone can join SSTAC meetings. The voting members represent different groups of people who need help with transportation. SSTAC looks at, suggests, and helps make better transportation for those who don't have easy access to it. Members attend meetings, tell SRTA and transportation providers about the needs of people who don't use transit well, find out what transit needs are not being met, and suggest ways to fix these problems. SSTAC also gives advice on big transportation issues, like coordinating and combining regional transit. The rules for SSTAC are in the Public Utilities Code §99238 and SRTA's SSTAC Bylaws. The voting members of SSTAC include one older transit user, one disabled potential transit user, two representatives from local social service providers for seniors, two from providers for people with disabilities, one from a provider for people with limited means, two from the local consolidated transportation service agency, and up to nine additional representatives from the transportation planning agency.
