GoShasta Regional Active Transportation Plan Update

The Shasta Region is a place where people enjoy being outside and active. People in our community engage in many forms of outdoor active living, including hiking, swimming, ranching, running, helping kids walk to school, playing pickleball, riding a bike, and taking an evening stroll in the neighborhood. The Shasta Regional Transportation Agency (SRTA) recognizes this local interest and works with people across the community to develop transportation options for safe walking, biking, and transit use. We are updating our 2018 GoShasta Regional Active Transportation Plan to continue our momentum making the Shasta Region a great place to walk, bike, roll, and drive.

These plans and projects create valuable transportation connections and opportunities to be outside and active in our cities, towns, and neighborhoods, supporting the relaxed outdoor living our residents and visitors appreciate.

The Shasta Region ecompases all the cities, towns, and unincorporated areas within the geographic boundaries of Shasta County. Our team will be considering projects on state, county, and local roadways. The GoShasta Regional Active Transportation Plan serves as the active transportation plan for the City of Redding, the City of Shasta Lake, the City of Anderson, and Shasta County.

We want to hear about your experience getting around the region

We want to hear from everyone in the community to help identify active transportation needs and issues as we create a vision for a safe, connected, thriving Shasta Region. We will be looking for answers to these types of questions:

  • Where do you like to go in our region, and how do you get there?
  • Where do you dream of walking, riding your bike, or using transit that you can’t easily do now?
  • What are the biggest barriers to getting where you want to go?
  • Where do you drive that you wish had more separation from people walking or biking?

Please take our community survey! Survey link coming soon.

Tell us about what actually matters: what’s working in your life, what isn’t, and what your community needs.

Your voice makes a difference!

Your responses contribute to an understanding of opportunities that will help inform the initial review of biking, walking, and transit transportation improvement needs. This community survey is an important part of our first phase of engagement, and the findings will be compiled and shared with the community. People will later have a chance to share ideas and make comments on the recommended projects.

GoShasta Regional Planning Delivers Transportation Improvements

In the years following the previous planning process and adoption of the 2018 GoShasta Plan, SRTA and agency partners followed the collective community vision and goals to create project plans, apply for grants, and secure the funds to build many milestone transportation assets.

Today, these walking, biking, and transit developments support local neighborhoods and businesses by helping people get where they want to go more easily, conveniently, and safely. Highlights include:

  • Downtown Loop in Redding: The five-mile Downtown Loop was developed by local agencies to deliberately create a continuous safe, comfortable, and convenient route for people to move across the City of Redding between neighborhoods and businesses North, South, and East of the Sacramento River. A series of projects were developed to address strong public interest and collaboration from local and regional agencies and public non-profits. Separately developed projects were linked, including:
  • Multi-use Path – Distelhorst to Downtown: A comfortable, safe connection for people walking and biking to and from Downtown and southern Redding to northern Redding, crossing the Sacramento River on the historic Diestelhorst bridge, now dedicated for people biking and walking.
  • Multi-use Path – Butte, Continental, Trinity Bikeway:  2-way travel for biking, adjacent to the sidewalk, creating a multi-use path.
  • Multi-use Path – California Street Bikeway:  2-way travel for biking, adjacent to the sidewalk, creating a multi-use path into the center of Downtown Redding.
  • Multi-use Path – Sundial Bridge to Butte Street: Comfortable, safe connection from the Sundial Bridge, through the Turtle Bay area, and safely across HWY 44 linking to the Butte Street Bikeway.
  • Multi-use Path – Turtle Bay to East Redding: This multi-use path creates a safe, convenient (and truly enjoyable experience) across the Sacramento River to Hilltop Avenue and East Redding.
  • Multi-use Path – Northeast Crossing Trail: A city trail connecting the Highland Park neighborhood to the Lake Boulevard neighborhood, linking to the Downtown Loop and southern Redding.
  • Multi-use Path – Palisades Trail:  A loop trail west of the Sacramento River connects north Redding neighborhoods, starting at Hilltop Avenue, to the Downtown Loop and neighborhoods in Downtown and South Redding.
  • Shasta Bike Depot, and Redding Bikeshare transit service:  A daily-staffed mobility hub at the Redding Transit Center, with a secure bike parking station, self-service bicycle repair, and a city bikeshare system to provide low-cost, convenient bicycle transit options.
  • Multi-use Path – Lake Boulevard/299:  A path along Lake Boulevard and Hwy 299 in Redding, helping people get safely and conveniently to and from North-East Redding neighborhoods and Shasta College, with safe crossings of the I-5 Freeway and freeway entrance and exits.
  • Protected Bikeway – Phase I of Link Shasta Active Transportation Loop in City of Shasta Lake – AHSC funded project – Includes complete streets along Shasta Dam Boulevard from Shasta Way to Locust Street. It will also include Safe Routes to School, creating connectivity to Grand Oaks School, and street improvements around the Redding Rancheria Economic Development Corporation (RREDCO)’s future commercial center.

A New Vision of Improvements for the Future of The Shasta Region

Now it is time to work together to consider possibilities and again dream big. The GoShasta Update is a process to engage people in the Shasta Region to consider options and share their needs.

The ideas and feedback from the community will help us identify challenges and opportunities for safe travel, connected neighborhoods, and thriving businesses.

The GoShasta Update helps local agencies develop the next round of projects, secure funding, and build improvements to support vibrant downtowns, thriving business districts, and pleasant neighborhoods.
